Pictured are opposition representatives María Corina Machado and Julio Borges, who were attacked in today’s Asamblea session. At least five opposition reps were assaulted, and one of them is currently hospitalised with multiple concussions, yet stable.
Since Diosdado Cabello, president of the Asamblea denied the right of word to opposition representatives, tension has escalated to the point representatives decided to protest with a banner, whistles and a megaphone. During the protest, pro-government representatives went on a rampage, throwing chairs, punching and kicking opposition reps.
Rep. Michael Reyes from Aragua State is seen in the last photo ready to throw a chair. According to María Corina Machado, some of them were armed with brass knuckles and other makeshift blunt weapons.
During opposition’s press conference, Nicolás Maduro took over radio and television signals, trying miserably to justify these violent acts, while silencing opposition leaders through blatant censorship.
Here’s a video of the aggression. Other video(s) can be found here.
Who are the fascists now?
Really? I’m afraid I disagree with this.
In the first place, Julio Borges was seen carrying a bag containing whistles and some other objects in order to sabotage the ordinary session in the Asamblea. Opposition representatives started to yell at the president of the Asamblea (Nora Barcho even pronounced some rude words at him), and were the first to went on the rampage and provoke the progovernment representatives. They were told to take their seats again, but instead, they threw a progovernment representative (a lady) out of the stairs and then kicked her.
In the second place, the man throwing a chair in the picture is not Rep. Michael Reyes; actually, he’s Richard Arteaga, a member of the MUD, who also starts the violent outburst in the Asamblea gallery.
Progovernment reps were attacked in the first place; the violence in the Asamblea was the result of a deliberate incitement from the members of the opposition. It is almost unbelievable the way the opposition media manipulates information and some people are just not interested in finding the real facts. “Fascist” seems to be a fashionable word now, but someone who reproduces this kind of behaviour toward a fake piece of information probably doesn’t know the meaning of that term.
